You wouldn’t call Enschede a metropolis right away. Nevertheless, a lot is happening there when it comes to innovation. It is the birthplace of many groundbreaking innovations such as WiFi, and companies such as Booking.com and Thuisbezorgd found their origins there. “Actually, we are sitting on a goldmine of innovation here, but we don’t show it enough,” says initiator Mike Verkouter, MT member at Novel-T. “We want to convey that with this event, that Twente has all the ingredients to start a successful startup here. So we are truly bringing a unique event to Twente.”
The event will take place on August 31 in the U Park Hotel of the University of Twente. With more than 25 sessions on three different stages, the organization is going all out. In addition, there is a pitch competition for startups where €10,000 can be won. “Slush itself is always a big party with all kinds of surprises for the visitors,” says Mike. “We want to bring that same vibe back here.”
Every year, Novel-T travels to Slush in Helsinki with a number of startups as part of the Dutch delegation. The event in Helsinki is known as the world’s largest startup event, where startups get in touch with investors. This year it was time to bring the event to Enschede in the form of a Slush’D event: an independently organized event under the banner of Slush. Other cities hosting a Slush’D event include Busan, Zagreb, Liverpool, Nairobi, Leuven, Heilbron, and New Delhi.
