The medical technology sector is a major growth engine for Twente’s future economy. The University of Twente is internationally recognized for its research in medical technology and combines research, education, and practice through the Techmed Centre. This leads to new solutions each year to improve healthcare while maintaining it staffable and affordable, especially in a sector under significant pressure. These innovations also foster new companies. Over the years, several successful spin-offs have been established and are experiencing rapid growth. The MedTech Twente 2030 project was created to accelerate innovation and support company growth with the right facilities, talent, and funding. This will help the sector take the next steps and become a leading international cluster.
MedTech Twente 2030 is an action plan in which the Twente MedTech cluster, along with organizations like Novel-T, Saxion University of Applied Sciences, World Trade Center Twente, Kennispark Twente, Health Valley, University of Twente | TechMed Centre, Oost NL, Province Overijssel, work together to grow the sector. The project focuses on three strategic pillars:
- Internationalization: connecting with global partners and markets;
- Community building: strengthening the regional innovation and business network;
- Visibility & positioning: profiling Twente as a top MedTech region.
