On February 4, 2026, Medisch Spectrum Twente (MST) hosted the MST Business Day, which brought together approximately 70 participants, including 25 companies from the MedTech and healthcare innovation ecosystem. The event offered companies a unique opportunity to connect directly with MST clinicians and the innovation team, who are actively seeking collaboration to develop innovations that genuinely improve healthcare.

As a top clinical hospital, MST is committed to continuous improvement. Innovation has always been part of healthcare, but the urgency to innovate has increased significantly. With an ageing population, growing care demand, and a structural shortage of healthcare professionals, the central question is clear: how do we deliver better care with fewer people? Close and effective collaboration between hospitals and companies is crucial to answering this question.

The afternoon began with a keynote address by Miriam Vollenbroek-Hutten, a Member of the Board of Directors at MST, who shared her vision for the hospital of the future. In this vision, hospitals may need to operate with significantly fewer staff, making data availability the foundation, supported by strong technical pillars and a robust ecosystem of partners as the roof.

Next, Arjan Huisjes, Department Manager Medical Technology at MST, highlighted the importance and uniqueness of MST’s four translation labs: the Medisch 3D Lab MST, Sensing & Interaction Lab, Fluorescence Imaging Lab MST, and the AI Lab MST. Supported by the MST InnovatieLab, these translation labs are designed to bridge the gap between innovation and clinical practice by moving from development to implementation and scaling.

The MST Business Day proved highly valuable for participating companies. Many described the event as an efficient and effective way to build relevant connections within the hospital, leading to follow-up meetings and potential collaborations.

Equally important was the strong engagement from MST clinicians. Doctors and healthcare professionals expressed a clear interest in collaborating with companies to co-develop and implement innovations that make a real difference in patient care.

The MST Business Day once again demonstrated the value of open collaboration between hospitals and industry. By bringing together clinical expertise, technological innovation, and a shared sense of urgency, meaningful steps are being taken toward sustainable, future-proof healthcare.
